About Project
Old website did not have content management system conected, so main request from client was to have the ability to add and edit products, maintain overall website content without having to turn to the developer. Shopify was chosen as a go-to CMS platform that could fully meet the business needs and requirements and allowed enough customization along with vast product and content management opportunities. Our team started with streamlining of the overall sitemap and UX, following up with creation of the brand UI kit that can be used not only for website design? but also for branding merchandise and delivery vehicles, then proceeded with developing complex custom features to bring a brand new store into life.

The first step was to gather website analytics to see how people interact with the current website and look for possible places for improvements – HotJar analytics tool was installed to this end. Once enough user activity data was collected, the main focus points crystallized. Another essential step during this stage was to clean the sitemap of unneeded links and combine some of the smaller pages into one to ease user navigation. Particular attention was also paid to the homepage flow and design requirements.
The business case included enough functional requirements for each page to begin prototyping. We started starting with the detailed product page to achieve simpler user navigation, but at the same time showcasing as many product features as possible to ease the mattress choice for customers. We ended up creating more than 20 unique custom fields, allowing maximum product customization from the Shopify admin panel, and narrowed down the product options. Such features as wishlist, financing app integration, newsletter, upsell products, google reviews, and API integration were included in the scope at this stage as new requirements emerged.
While the old website was designed in a monochrome blue color palette, our design team decided to switch from cold hues to warmer color combinations that were to steer up the feeling of comfort, happiness, and warmth of the home based on the color study. Mattress patterns were used as creative elements and blues were kept as complimentary colors to balance the overall look. The designer also focused on the optimistic, charismatic, and fun personality of Ryan Farris, the owner of MattressKing, by incorporating his photos to add a personal touch and a feeling of personal connection for website visitors.
